Hosted by Maypop Community Herb Shop and Press Street Gardens
Fire cider is an age-old remedy for winter health. Using vinegar as a base, we add ingredients that are warming, antibacterial, and yellow, orange, or red, to remind us of the sun, the core of the earth, and warm days to come. People have long consumed fire cider to ward off colds, sore throats, flus, and to promote circulation.
This is a two-part class:
Part #1: Brewing (November 18, 2pm-4pm)
In this class, we’ll harvest herbs from Press Street Gardens and discuss their various uses as we prepare them for brewing. You’re encouraged to bring fresh herbs or spices from your own garden such as rosemary, thyme, turmeric, ginger, onion, horseradish, and citrus. We’ll add these to the ingredients from Press Street Gardens when we brew the cider.
Part #2: Harvesting (December 16, 1pm-2pm)
During this class, we’ll squeeze the brew and talk about its many applications.
The suggested donation for both classes is $10-15, sliding scale. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Bring cash to the brewing class, and at the pressing class, you’ll receive 8 oz. of fire cider. (Please bring your own jar!) If you wish to purchase additional fire cider, we’ll sell it at $1/oz.
